Lincoln and Carter ask for your support of The Heart of a Champion Project to help fund the Adaptive Sports Court and Lokomat at the Los Cabos Children’s Medical Center. You can show your support by:
The Adaptive Sports Court at the CRIT will be an outdoor complex where many sports can be enjoyed. From baseball and basketball to boccia, the area is wheelchair friendly and provides a colorful, positive outlet outside of rehabilitation therapy for all to enjoy.
The Lokomat is the world’s leading robotic rehabilitation device that helps patients with walking disabilities improve their mobility. Patients are suspended in a harness above a treadmill while robotic legs move their legs through a normal walking pattern. This allows the physical therapist to control the speed, how much body weight a patient uses, and how much assistance from the device is needed. Truly life changing technology.
Lincoln and Carter’s friendship is special. Living in different states, time together is scarce, but their common love for sports has created a unique and beautiful bond. Their time together is spent shooting hoops, throwing the football, running, playing, swimming, wrestling, anything and everything active. They are just eleven-year-old boys being boys! No competition of who is the better athlete, no talk of disability, just the simple recognition that they both love the same things and have fun together.
Lincoln is a bright light in today’s world. Those who meet him quickly realize his humor and passion for life is contagious, specifically his love and knowledge of basketball. Diagnosed at a young age with Cerebral Palsy, Lincoln is no stranger to hard work. Before he could walk, Lincoln started occupational and physical therapy and has continued both most of his life. His innocence kept him going in the beginning, but today it is his GRIT that keeps him motivated. Tenacity implies strength and the determination of spirit – something anyone who knows Lincoln would vouch that he exemplifies. He has spent hours watching athlete footage and is reminded by his family often that it is the hours when no one is watching that really count. Not wanting to be left behind by his friends in sports (school or league play), Lincoln spends time in therapy, training and practicing his skills and is proud to play basketball, flag football, pickleball, golf, skateboard, and wake surf. Disability is not a crutch for him – in fact it is his ability that shines and makes him a leader.
Carter is a sweet soul and talented athlete who is extremely dedicated to his passions. He is often recognized on the football field for his leadership, skill, and competitiveness. He excels as quarterback and enjoys playing basketball. Outside of sports Carter is known for his gentle spirit, protective nature, and compassion.
Imagine a child you love facing a health challenge. The Vedadi family lived through this when their son Lincoln experienced complications at birth. Lincoln, the reason for their advocacy, defied expectations. Told he might never walk or talk, he’s now eleven and thrives in many environments.
A testament to love, dedication, hard work, and most crucially – access. They faced uncertainty, tears, and numerous appointments. But unlike many families in Cabo, their family had resources; these families do not. What if we could change the narrative?
A new endeavor by the El Dorado & Chileno Bay Foundations in collaboration with Los Cabos Children’s Foundation.
Currently, there is no specialty medical treatment for children in Los Cabos. Any child needing a pediatric specialist, rehabilitaton, or treatment, including cancer or other specialties, must travel to La Paz, three hours from Los Cabos via public transportation. This is untenable for many local families, causing children to drop out of the lifesaving treatments they need.
Last February, our moms (Shayna Vedadi & Nicole Bradley) joined forces with the Chileno Bay Foundation and are excited to share that Phase I fundraising is complete and construction planning has begun.
Wanting to create a legacy of their own, Lincoln and Carter are fundraising to sponsor two specific areas within the CRIT.
We believe all children can benefit from teamwork, movement, and having something they love to look forward to. Second as active young men, we cannot imagine not being able to walk. Lincoln spent many years in an AFO leg brace to help correct his walking pattern, and now at eleven understands the freedom and gift of being able to not only walk, but run and play sports.
